The Yorkshire Alpaca Show was held at the Thirsk Farmers Auction Mart Centre on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th October 2013.
An Alpaca is a domesticated species of South American camelid. It resembles a small Llama in appearance. Alpacas are kept in herds on the high levels of the Andes. These beautiful, intelligent, gentle creatures make a soothing humming, purring sound. Alpacas are smaller than Llamas and are unsuitable for carrying loads. They are bred for their high quality soft fleeces which is turned into fine cloth and for meat (which is a shame). Alpacas live in family groups (they do not like to live solitary lives) and can live for 20 years.
